about

"Nightworker" is a collection of pieces recorded in the years spanning 2010 and 2019. Some have appeared scattered across the internet on different sites, under different names over the years, invariably appearing and disappearing on a whim. Here they all appear collected for the first time as the first full length Otterans album, a document of the infancy of the project.

As with more recent recordings, these were all recorded in the crudest possible fashion - usually a guitar straight into some pedals and into a laptop - and are largely improvised; songs start with a particular phrase or chord sequence and develop from there. The album title is quite simply a reference to the fact that most of these tracks were recorded late at night, as a means to stave off insomnia. Consequently the roots of nocturnal theme that still carries through Otterans today are very much evident here. Now, as then, the best time to listen to this stuff is late at night.

Quality varies. The Fi is very Much Lo. Guitar leads cut out. A riff or two you hear here might have shown up in some more recent work. That's the way it is. None of the material here has been edited or processed other than through pedals while being played, and overdubs are scare bar on "Buried In Leaves", which is also the only Otterans song to date to feature vocals (recorded through a pair of busted headphones if you were wondering).
